The 8th of the ICC Cricket World 2019 saw the clash between South Africa and India at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. The match witnesses a superb knock from Indian opener Rohit Sharma who scored his 23rd ODI century and went on to win the match for his team by scoring 122 runs from 144 balls.
The Proteas won the toss and Captain Faf du Plessis opt to Bat first. The first 10 overs saw a great spell from Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and World no. 1 ODI bowler Jasprit Bumrah. After that Hardik Pandya came into the attack along with Kuldeep Yadav. The runs were not scoring at a good run rate. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled fantastic spell and ended up his figure (4/51). The Men in Blue stopped Africans at 227-9 in 50 overs.
The batting for Indian team was opened by Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli depart for few runs but Rohit Sharma was calmed and consistent at the other end. KL Rahul joined him for a decent partnership. But Rohit Sharma form was at the next level and went on to score his 2nd World Cup century, and with this century he surpassed former Indian veteran batsman Sourav Ganguly who had 22 century in his name. Only Virat Kohli (41) and Sachin Tendulkar (49) ahead of him now.
With his consistent knock and Pace plus Spin attack, India stepped into the World Cup 2019 with a 6 wickets victory over South Africa and continued their streak of beating Proteas in the last 6 ICC events.
